In 2018, Ukraine increased penalties for parents who do not pay child support. In particular, fines were increased for debtors at that time. The Ministry of Justice explained what fines are currently provided for people who delay in paying alimony. “Don’t pay child support on time? Then be prepared for various restrictions. One of the effective means of influencing debtors is the threat of imposing financial sanctions, which are in the form of fines,” the Ministry of Justice says. If the total amount of alimony arrears exceeds the amount of the corresponding payments for 1 year, a fine of 20% of the arrears is imposed on the debtor. If the debt is 2 years old, a fine of 30% of the debt is imposed. Photo: serezniy/Depositphotos For debts of 3 years or more, a fine of 50% of the amount of unpaid payments is applied. At the same time, the debtor is still obliged to repay alimony arrears. “All these funds are collected by the executor from the debtor after repayment of alimony arrears in full and transferred to the benefit of the child, as such financial charges are a kind of compensation for forced waiting,” the department says. Debtors are also punished with community service for a period of 120 to 360 hours. We will remind you that earlier in Ukraine the minimum amount of child support for relatives was increased if the parents cannot pay it. Read also: To prison for non-payment of alimony.
