Actor and former Minister of Culture Yevgena Nyshchuk was appointed general director-artistic director of the Ivan Franko National Academic Drama Theater in Kyiv. Acting Minister of Culture Rostislav Karandeev presented the new head to the theater team on Wednesday, March 3.

“Evgeny Mykolayovych promised to announce plans for the development of the theater and its further activities later, stressing that he would certainly support all the achievements of the team that are available today“, – noted in the theater.

The contract with Nyschuk was signed for the period of martial law and 12 months after its end. In this position, the actor replaced Mykhailo Zakharevich, who had been the general director since 2004.
In May 2023, Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Yevhen Nyschuk as the head of the Taras Shevchenko National Award Committee of Ukraine. At the beginning of 2024, on March 9, the Shevchenko Committee awarded the distinction in the category “Theatrical art” to director-producer Ivan Uryvskyi for the sold-out performance “The Witch of Konotop” at the Franko Theater.
Who is Yevhen Nyshchuk
Yevhen Nyschuk is a theater, film and dubbing actor from Ivano-Frankivsk. He was an activist of the Orange Revolution, for which he was nicknamed the “voice of the Maidan”, and also participated in the Revolution of Dignity. He served twice as Minister of Culture: from February 27 to December 2, 2014 and from April 14, 2016 to August 29, 2019.
In 2015, he received the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine. At the same time, he was engaged in acting in the Franko Theater. Until now, the audience can see performances with his participation – “A Moment of Love”, “Three Friends”, “The Marriage of Figaro”, “Stolen Happiness”.

Frank’s Theater
Yevgeny Nyshchuk joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, was a participant in the battles in Kyiv region, Mykolaiv region and Kherson region in 2022.
