At a concert in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, the leader of the rock group DDT, Yury Shevchuk, dedicated one of his most famous songs, “Freedom”, to the memory of Alexei Navalny.

Before the performance of the song, Shevchuk addressed the audience with the following words: “The sun will rise. Alexey Navalny died the day before yesterday. He spoke to us, Russians, about freedom. And he spoke well about it. And he reminded us that we can all become free in the best sense of the word . He said that faith without freedom is fanaticism. That work without freedom is slavery. Cheap, heavy slavery. That love without freedom is despotism. Nothing happens without freedom, everything is painted black.”

Shevchuk has previously repeatedly spoken out in support of political prisoners and, in particular, Alexei Navalny. The musician said that he would like an opposition figure to become the president of Russia in the future.

With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the DDT leader also publicly condemned the actions of Vladimir Putin. After that, the group’s concerts were canceled throughout Russia, and Shevchuk himself was convicted and fined 80 thousand rubles under the article of the Administrative Code on the discrediting of the actions of the Armed Forces of Russia.

Now DDT occasionally perform abroad. At the same time, Yury Shevchuk remains in Russia.

On February 16, FSIN reported that opposition politician Alexei Navalny died in a colony in Yamal. Official causes of death have not been announced. Alexey’s relatives are not releasing his body, citing the fact that the investigation is being conducted by the Investigative Committee. Colleagues of the opposition leader believe that he was killed.

Lyudmila Navalnaya, after hearing about her son’s death, said that she went to see him a few days ago. According to the mother, the politician felt well and did not complain about his health.

The fact that Navalny was in good health was also confirmed in the Vladimir regional court, where the politician spoke via video link on February 15.
