Those who supported the flash mob distributed a drawing by the artist Nikita Titov, on which there is an inscription: “Publishing products of the aggressor is also an occupation, President, sign it.” Zelensky’s response to the petition with a call to sign the law and to the large-scale flash mob appeared on his official website on Tuesday, June 20. “Law of Ukraine No. 2309-IX … was supported and adopted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, at the same time a number of reservations were expressed regarding its signing. In particular, the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine proposed to apply the right of veto to the mentioned Law, as it contains regulations on the import and distribution of publishing products, released to the world in the language of the aggressor state, will have signs of inconsistency with the third part of Article 10 and the second part of Article 24 of the Constitution of Ukraine,” the president’s answer reads. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also opposed the signing: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the current version of the Law does not comply with EU norms and standards in the field of human rights, including freedom of opinion, protection of the rights of national minorities, prohibition of discrimination on the basis of language, and therefore may complicate the process negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union”. Zelensky said that he instructed the Cabinet to further work on this issue, taking into account the opinion of interested parties, the position of the EU, and inform about the results.
