111-year-old John Tinniswood from England became the oldest person in the world. He received this title shortly after death 114-year-old Venezuelan Juan Vicente Perez.

The story of the new record holder told in the Guinness Book of Records.

John Alfred Tinniswood was born in Liverpool on August 26, 1912. As of April 5, 2024, his exact age is 111 years and 223 days.

Tinniswood survived both world wars. He was 27 years old during the Second World War. Despite the problem with his vision, the man worked in an administrative position in the army pay corps, which solved financial issues.

In addition to accounting and auditing, John’s work included logistical tasks: finding soldiers and organizing food supplies.

Thus, Tinniswood is also the world’s oldest living male World War II veteran.

John met his wife Blodwen in 1942. The couple lived together for 44 years – in 1986, the woman died.

John currently has four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He lives in a home for the elderly.

Despite his advanced age, Tinniswood can still do most everyday tasks on his own: getting out of bed without help, listening to the radio and even managing his own finances.

According to John, his longevity is “pure luck”.

“You either live long, or you live short, and there’s nothing you can do about it.” said the record holder.

He does not smoke and rarely drinks alcohol. However, the man does not follow a diet. Therefore, every Friday he has a tradition of eating a portion of fish with French fries.

To preserve your health, John advises everyone to practice moderation.

“If you drink too much, eat too much, walk too much, or do anything else, eventually you will suffer.” he says.

Instead, he advises young people to do everything possible in any situation.

“The world is always changing in its own way. It’s a continuous experience. It’s getting a little better, but not that much. Everything’s going the right way.” – says John.

It is also noted that the 112-year-old Japanese Hisaburo Sonobe was supposed to become the new oldest person in the world. However, it became known that he died on March 31.
