Neurological diseases – from migraines to stroke, Parkinson’s disease and dementia – is the main reason for the deterioration of people’s health all over the world.

According to the results of the study, which published in the magazine Lancet11.1 million people died from neurological disorders in 2021, writes The Guardian.

Scientists from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, who analyzed neurodevelopmental disorders for the first time, including autism and neurological disorders in children, found that they caused the loss of 80 million years of healthy life.

The researchers also found that over the past 30 years, the number of people living with or dying from neurological diseases has increased worldwide.

In 2021, the number of patients with relevant diagnoses has increased to 3.4 billion, which is about 43% of the global population.

Among the most common neurological disorders in 2021, scientists recorded headache (about 2 billion cases) and migraine (almost 1.1 billion cases).

“The main cause of death is stroke”said study author Jamie Steinmetz.

Among other diseases that most often lead to mortality, scientists single out:

meningitis;

▲ epilepsy;

▲ Alzheimer’s disease;

▲ craniocerebral injuries in newborns;

▲ neurological complications in children born before 37 weeks of pregnancy;

▲ nerve damage caused by diabetes, autism and cancer of the nervous system.

Researchers associate the spread of neurological diseases in the world with the increase in the number of people on the planet, the wrong way of life, as well as the influence of the environment.

Scientists noted that 80% of deaths from neurological disorders occur in low- and middle-income countries. We are talking, in particular, about the countries of the western and central parts of Africa.

The study highlighted the importance of preventive measures to reduce the risk of developing certain neurological conditions. Scientists call the reduction of high blood pressure the most important.

According to their data, preventive measures can prevent 84% of diseases, disabilities and premature death from stroke.

We used to toldwhich mental disorders are most common in older people.
