65% of Ukrainians have relatives who joined the army after February 24, 2022 – survey

65% of surveyed Ukrainians have relatives who fought or are fighting on the front line, starting from February 24, 2022. This is evidenced by the results of the 24th National Survey “Ukraine at War”, conducted by the Sociological Group “Rating” on September 5-7, 2023. Almost half of the respondents – 49% – noted that among their relatives and friends there are those who participated in military operations in Ukraine from 2014 to 2021. 65% have relatives who fought or are fighting on the front, starting from February 24, 2022. Compared to previous studies, the number of people who believe that the state fulfills its obligations to war veterans continues to decrease. In August 2022, they were 69%, in January 2023 – 53%, in September 2023 – 33%. The opinion about the non-fulfillment of obligations by the state is more widespread among those who do not have relatives at war, or have those who are fighting right now,” the authors of the survey note. According to the results of the survey, the number of Ukrainians who associate war veterans with young people is increasing: in January, there were 21% of them, in September – 26%. In January, there were 29%, and at the beginning of autumn – 47%. The interviewees named the problems that, in their opinion, war veterans may face after returning from service. 32% believe that the main problem will be psycho-emotional instability; 31% – problems with physical health and difficulties in obtaining medical assistance; 28% – lack of inclusive space and adapted workplace for persons with disabilities; 28% – problems with registration of social benefits; 20% – conflicts in the family. The respondents answered: 77% – unequivocally yes; 19% – rather yes; 1% – rather not; 1% – not at all; 2% is difficult to answer. Screenshot of the survey results of the Sociological group “Rating” In addition, people were asked how much society respects veterans: 25% answered that it definitely respects them; 54% – rather respect; 15% – rather do not respect; 3% – do not respect at all; 4% is difficult to answer. So, 79% of respondents believe that society respects veterans. After the survey in January of this year, there were 91% of them. Screenshot of the survey results of the Sociological Group “Rating” The survey was conducted at the initiative of the “Ukrainian Veterans Fund” of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine. It was attended by 1,000 people aged 18 and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas, as well as territories where there is no Ukrainian mobile communication at the time of the survey.
