73% of patients do not have vaccinations

111 cases of whooping cough were recorded in the Rivne region over the past two months. This is 37 times more than in the same period last year.

By data of the Rivne Regional Center for Disease Control and Prevention, fell ill 108 children and three adults.

In 24% of patients, the cough is mild, in 72% – in the medium form of severity, and in another 4% – severe form

In the region, the largest number of cases was recorded in Sarne, Rivne, and Vara districts.

“The main cause of morbidity – this is failure to perform preventive vaccinations. 73% of patients this year are unvaccinated or do not have the next vaccination against whooping cough”– it is noted in the regional center for disease control and prevention.

What is whooping cough and how to protect against it?

Whooping cough is an infectious disease that affects the respiratory system and manifests itself in severe coughing fits. The disease is especially dangerous for babies under one year of age.

Symptoms of the disease are:

▲ spasmodic cough (can last up to three months);

▲ moderate heat;

▲ runny nose.

In addition, the disease may be accompanied by complications, namely:

▲ convulsions;

▲ pneumonia (inflammation of the lungs);

▲ encephalopathy (brain damage);

▲ apnea (stoppage of breathing movements).

Vaccination provides the only reliable protection against whooping cough.

According to National vaccination calendarit is necessary to vaccinate children for the prevention of whooping cough at the age of 2, 4, 6 and 18 months.
