A petition on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine about the creation of women’s and men’s carriages in trains has received the required number of votes. The petition was published on May 15, 2023. The authors of the appeal ask to allocate at least one separate carriage for women and, accordingly, for men in trains that follow a route longer than 6 hours. “On long routes, when there is a need to sleep in compartment or first-class cars, passengers may feel discomfort due to passengers of the opposite sex. There are rare cases of unacceptable behavior such as intrusive behavior, intentional touching of other passengers, etc. In particular, there are even cases of rape in compartment cars wagons,” the petition states. The authors of the petition also note that people often change clothes on trains, which is problematic to do in the presence of a member of the opposite sex. Women’s compartments are planned to be introduced on long-distance routes. Women, transwomen, mothers with children up to 6 years of age of any gender will be admitted to such compartments.
