The court ordered to enter the burial mound in Transcarpathia into the register of monuments

The Transcarpathian District Administrative Court has decided to include a unique monument of the Scythian era – a burial mound in the Transcarpathian region – in the state register of immovable monuments of Ukraine.

The decision was made by the court at the request of the Khust District Prosecutor’s Office, which proved the need to enter the archaeological monument of local importance in the village of Bilky into the state register, the Zakarpattia Regional Prosecutor’s Office reported.
In addition, the court recognized as illegal the inaction of the local village council, which did not prepare accounting documentation and did not submit a proposal to the higher-level cultural heritage protection body – the Department of Culture of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration.
Mound cemetery in Bilky (or Bilkiv burial ground) are two barrows up to 2 m high. They are located in the tract “Under the settlement”, belong to the early period of the Iron Age and occupy 0.5 ha of ivy. The monument is considered unique, because it allows you to study the history of Transcarpathia during the Scythian era – VI-IV centuries BC.
Excavations here began in the 30s of the 20th century. A little later, during archeological excavations, ancient burials were discovered in these mounds, and on the outskirts of the village – the remains of the contemporary settlement and bronze products.
