A petition asking for permission to transport dogs in the capital’s metro has received the required number of signatures.

The petition, which was signed by more than 6,000 Kyiv residents, must now be considered by a specialized commission.

The petition appeared on the website of the Kyiv City Council on February 6. The author, Valeriya Umanski, asked to be allowed to travel with four-legged friends, subject to compliance with safety and sanitary standards.

On social networks, many people supported the request and told their stories about the difficulties of transporting dogs.

“It’s just that I have paws… Sometimes there were situations when Lucky and I were simply not allowed on the subway and no one cared that he was very small and in our arms– wrote the “dog lover” Lisa Karpushyna.

According to current rules, only birds and small animals in cages, as well as guide dogs, can be transported in the Kyiv metro.

They must have a collar, a muzzle, a special license and undergo training in the conditions of the metro.

It will be recalled that earlier in Ukraine it was allowed to take pets to shelters, but with compliance with a number of requirements.

The discussion about the need for this decision intensified after children with a dog were not allowed to enter the school shelter in the capital during an air raid.
