A 5-day-old baby died in an Odesa hospital: the police opened a criminal case

A 5-day-old baby died in one of Odessa’s medical facilities. Law enforcement officers have opened criminal proceedings.

This was reported in the Main Department of the National Police of the Odesa region.

According to their data, a resident of the city of Yuzhne, Odesa region, gave birth to a child in a local hospital.

The newborn needed medical help. The woman in labor and the baby were taken by ambulance to one of the medical facilities in Odesa.

However, on the fifth day after birth, October 24, the child died.

Due to the fact of death, law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings under two articles of the Criminal Code:

  • Part 2 of Article 115 – intentional homicide marked “natural death”;
  • part 2 of Article 140 – improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker.

As the police informed “UP. Life”, the case was opened immediately after the mother’s appeal.

The cause of the child’s death will be established after a forensic medical examination.
