In the city of Rostock, which is on the northern coast of Germany, archaeologists found a lead “table with a curse” and calls to Satan and two other devils in a 15th-century toilet.
Even in ancient times, the so-called tablets with curses were hidden where they were difficult or impossible to find.
The plaque was discovered during construction works on the expansion of the Rostock town hall, writes Arkeonews.
The text on it is written in Gothic font. Scientists managed to read it: “sathanas taleke belzebuk hinrik berith”. From what was written, scientists came to the conclusion that the curse was directed at a woman named Taleke and a man named Hinrik (Heinrich). The devils addressed in the curse are Beelzebub and Berit.

Beelzebub in the early Christian religion is the lord of demons, the second figure in hell, the closest associate and co-ruler of Satan-Lucifer, Berit is a demon who controls 26 legions of spirits.
The find is particularly unique because curse tablets were common in ancient times, from around 800 BC. to 600 AD, in the Greek and Roman regions, noted the leader of the excavation Jorg Ansorge.
“Our find can be dated back to the 15th century. It is really very special“, added Ansorge.
The beginning of the 7th century marked the end of the era of lead tablets with curses. Curses from later periods were found, but they came in different forms. The ancient tradition was probably still practiced in medieval Rostock at least once, scientists say.
Also, at the site of the construction of the town hall, a team of archaeologists discovered six medieval houses and several cellars. Experts found in the basements and houses traces of crafts and daily life of the inhabitants, stone stairs and various bronze faucets of the VI-VII centuries.
