The British military claims a new world record among women. She crossed Antarctica on skis in 31.5 days, reports The Guardian.

Captain Harpreet Chandy covered 1,130 km of Antarctic ice in 31 days, 13 hours and 19 minutes. She beat the previous record holder, Canadian Caroline Cote, by 1 day, 14 hours and 34 minutes.

On November 26, Chandi left Hercules Bay on the Ronne Ice Shelf. She arrived at the South Pole on December 28 at 2:24 a.m. GMT.

Every day, Chandi was on the road for 12-13 hours. With her, she dragged a sled weighing 75 kg, which contained all the things necessary for survival.

“It definitely wasn’t a sprint, but I had to constantly weigh my efforts and decide how long I would ski. Too long or too fast and I would burn out. Too slow or too early and I wouldn’t be able to break the record “, – remarked the British woman.

This is Chandy’s third record. She previously held the records for the longest solo unsupported one-way ski trip by a woman and the longest solo unsupported one-way ski trip in history.

Chandi took a career break for this. She was a military medic and physiotherapist.

“I’m tired, but I’m really glad I did it. It’s not like my last expedition. Last time I gave it my all, but a sprint is a different thing. After my last expedition, I knew I could do well on the ice. It gave me confidence that I could cover this distance.” Chandi said.

Now the Guinness Book of Records has to confirm this record. The process may take several months.
