A door from the Titanic was sold at auction for $718,000

The door on which the main character Rose was saved in the finale of “Titanic” in the performance Kate Winslet, sold at auction for $718,750. The wooden panel became the most expensive item sold at the event, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

At the auction Heritage Auctions’ Treasures of Planet Hollywood balsa door beat out Jack Nicholson’s ax from Kubrick’s The Shining and Indiana Jones’ whip from Temple of Doom.

Although the object was called a door at the auction, in the description of the exhibit notedthat this design is in the Rococo style was actually part of the door frame directly above the entrance to the ship’s first class lounge.

The main character of the 1997 film Rose, which she played Kate Winslet, saves himself from drowning in the icy water on the door block. “No, he had to die. It’s like Romeo and Juliet. This is a film about love, sacrifice and mortality. Love is measured by sacrifice“, Cameron explained.

Other details sold at auction:

• Harrison Ford’s whip from the movie “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” set the record as the franchise’s most expensive prop ($525,000). Also sold were a set of three Sankara jewels from the film ($100,000), as well as a timepiece of the Holy Grail from The Last Crusade ($87,500).
• Bill Murray’s red and pink bowling ball by Kingpin ($350,000).
• Nicholson’s ax from The Shining ($125,000).
• Tobey Maguire’s black symbiote suit from “Spider-Man 3” ($125,000).
• The shaving cream jar that Wayne Knight uses to smuggle dinosaur embryos into Jurassic Park ($250,000)
