The man pleaded not guilty in court. “The evidence of the prosecution has indisputably convinced the court of the latter’s guilt,” the prosecutor’s office added. The man was sentenced to 15 years in prison for intentionally killing a woman and committing arson in order to conceal a crime (Part 1 of Article 115, Part 2 of Article 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). Currently, the foreigner is in a pre-trial detention center. Photo: Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office In a commentary for “UP. Life”, Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Nadiya Maksimets said that the foreigner had rented an apartment shortly before the murder. According to the investigation, he was familiar with the victim. “Probably, a conflict arose between them, during which the woman received fatal bodily injuries. According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, the victim died as a result of mechanical asphyxia (suffocation). After that, she was hit on the head with a blunt object,” says Nadiya Maksimets. According to her, in order to hide the traces of the crime, the man moved the woman’s body to another room, put it on the bed and set the bed on fire. The examination found the man culpable. “Previously, he was not held criminally liable on the territory of Ukraine. He is not officially employed, without a registered place of residence on the territory of Ukraine, without a specified place of residence in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region,” the spokeswoman added.
