A French couple was banned from owning animals: a man and a woman already had 159 cats

The court imposed a ban on keeping pets on a couple from Nice. informs BBC. The reason was that a 68-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man kept more than a hundred dogs and cats in inappropriate conditions.

The animals became known in 2023, when a police officer came to the call for a complaint about the couple’s quarrels.

The representative of the authorities, having entered the apartment, found out that the apartment with a total area of ​​80 m²in addition to a man and a woman, there were 159 cats and 7 dogs.

The animals were covered in parasites, dehydrated and malnourished. In the bathroom, law enforcement officers found at least 4 more dead pets.

The woman took the first three cats and the same number of dogs from her parents in 2018, and later brought home about 30 more animals from an abandoned house near her residence. Therefore, new residents began to multiply.

The owner of the house declared in court that she had “made a mistake”, even though the animals were “the love of her life”.

Psychiatric examination revealed the woman’s “Noah syndrome” – a psychological need to save animals even if it is impossible to keep them in proper conditions.

In addition to a permanent ban on keeping pets, the court sentenced the couple to a one-year suspended sentence and ordered them to pay more than 150,000 euros to animal protection organizations. There is no information on the future fate of 166 cats and dogs.
