The island of Alicudi is the smallest island of the Aeolian archipelago of Sicily. About 100 people and at least 600 wild goats live on it.

It is noted that animals used to live on rocky islands and managed to become a tourist attraction in Alikudi.

However, during the last two years, the number of goats has increased rapidly, and they have descended from the cliffs into the urban settlement. Sometimes they even look into people’s homes.

“We don’t even want to consider the option of breeding animals, so we offer to distribute them to local people. Anyone can submit an application for a goat – a person does not necessarily have to be a farmer. There are no restrictions on the number.” – said the mayor of the island Riccardo Gullo.

He added that the offer to “adopt” the animal is valid until April 10.

“We have already had a few phone calls, including one from a farmer on Volcano Island who would like to take some goats. Among other things, it produces ricotta cheese, which is highly valued“, – added Gullo.

It is noted that for the first time, goats were brought to Alikudi 20 years ago for the purpose of breeding these animals. However, due to the fact that the plan failed, the goats were left to fend for themselves.
