A journalist suspected of corrupting underage boys was detained in Kyiv

A 39-year-old man was arrested in Kyiv for corrupting minors and keeping child pornography. According to the investigation, the victims were two 15-year-old boys, whom the suspect paid for sexual relations, Kyiv police reports. Law enforcement officers seized child pornography from the perpetrator. If the court finds the man guilty, he faces 8 years behind bars. According to UP sources in the law enforcement agencies, the suspect is a journalist of the “Vesty” publication. However, the press service of the Kyiv police neither confirms nor denies this information. “We cannot disclose the personal data of both the victims and the party suspected of committing a criminal offense while the pre-trial investigation is ongoing,” spokeswoman Yulia Girdvilis replied. Photo: Kyiv police. “During the investigation, the police established that the man repeatedly contacted the boys by phone and arranged a meeting in his own apartment, after which he committed lewd acts against the children and provided a monetary reward,” said law enforcement officers. The previously unconvicted man stored photo and video materials with child pornography downloaded from the Internet on a flash drive. The investigative department of the Obolon police department, in agreement with the district prosecutor’s office, informed the man of suspicion under three articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 2 of Art. 155 – committing acts of a sexual nature with a person who has not reached the age of sixteen combined with the provision of monetary or other compensation to the victim; Part 1, Art. 3 156-1 – harassment of a child for sexual purposes; Part 1 of Art. 301-1 – intentionally obtaining access to child pornography using information and telecommunication systems or technologies or intentionally acquiring it, or intentionally storing, importing into Ukraine, transporting or otherwise moving child pornography without the purpose of sale. The Obolonskyi District Court chose a preventive measure for the suspect in the form of detention with the possibility of bail in the amount of 214,720 hryvnias. It is currently known that the man is in custody and bail has not been posted. The sanction of the most serious article provides up to 8 years of imprisonment with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to 3 years. In addition, the investigators have reason to believe that the suspect may be involved in a number of similar crimes.
