A man suspected of raping and killing a schoolgirl was arrested in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast

Police officers in Pyatikhatki, Dnipropetrovsk region, detained a 46-year-old man, who was suspected of the brutal murder and rape of a 16-year-old girl. More than 2 weeks were spent searching for the criminal, the National Police of the Dnipropetrovsk region reported. The crime was committed around midnight on September 4. The mother of a teenage girl contacted the police when she lost contact with her daughter. All personnel were involved in the search. However, she was found dead. The policemen were maximally focused on solving a particularly serious crime and worked out all possible versions in order to to confirm or deny each,” the press service added. On September 23, after investigative and search measures, law enforcement officers managed to track down the suspect. He was detained following the results of investigative actions and DNA examination. In a comment for “UP.Zhyttia”, the National Police of the Dnipropetrovsk region said that the suspect had previously been convicted of theft. During his detention in Pyatikhatki, he did not resist and confessed to the crime. Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko noted that the suspect is the father of 5 children. The youngest child is 5 years old. The eldest daughter is the same age as the dead girl. Klymenko also reported that after committing the crime, the man tried to hide even abroad with his wife, hoping that over time the intensity of searches would decrease.
