A man who raped and killed his niece will be tried in Prykarpattia: he faces life imprisonment

A 34-year-old man who raped and then killed a 9-year-old niece will be tried in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
The Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office reports that the man faces life imprisonment.
Law enforcement officers established that the incident happened on June 18 in the village of Kuty, Kosiv district, Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Around 3:00 p.m., the girl left the house to visit her sister, followed by a 34-year-old relative who was visiting her father.

Taking advantage of the girl’s trust, the man offered her to shorten the path and go through the forest, the prosecutor’s office reports.
“He lured the girl to a wooded area near the river, then forced her to undress, beat, raped and strangled her,” – say the investigators.
That evening, the body of the child was discovered by law enforcement officers near the Cheremosh River.

The accused will be tried immediately under two articles:
- Part 6 of Art. 152 of the Criminal Code (rape);
- item item 2, 10 part 2 of Art. 115 of the Criminal Code (intentional murder).
The man faces life imprisonment.
