A monkey was born in the Lutsk Zoo in the Potasiv family of red monkeys. His gender is currently unknown, Suspilne reports. The baby was born on May 24, but he is already with his mother in an outdoor enclosure and is actively socializing. The name will be chosen as soon as the gender and character of the baby monkey are known, zoo employees explained. According to Tetyana Ponomaryova, head of the primate department of the Lutsk Zoo, the newborn animal “was well received by the other inhabitants of the enclosure.” Photo: Suspilne Lutsk She said that the female monkey is raising two cubs. The oldest of them was named Leo by the zoo workers. The mother does not let go of the newborn monkey yet. “This family has been with us for quite a long time, there are five primates in the group, including a small one. It is very sociable – this is such a rare case. The mother looks after the children, but they communicate with the caretakers and with the whole family,” he adds Tetyana Ponomaryova. Monkey with parents The zoo’s veterinarian notes that many monkeys have started giving birth to babies. He adds that this is a “good sign” and means that the conditions for keeping animals are as close as possible to natural ones. “The Red Hussar monkey has already given birth twice without outside help. She gave birth in natural conditions, gives birth, feeds and everything is fine with the physiological state and development in excellent condition,” said the veterinarian. Monkey enclosure The zoo asks visitors who want to see the monkeys not to shout near the enclosure and not to feed the primates with brought food, because the animals have their own diet.
