“A parcel for you”: the cyber police warned about a new scheme of fraudsters

[ad_1]

The cyber police are warning about a new fraudulent scheme in which criminals offer to receive a parcel by clicking on a link.

This is how fraudsters collect users’ payment data in order to steal their funds, Kyiv police reported.

“Intruders distribute fake SMS messages about the arrival of parcels on behalf of a well-known Ukrainian postal service.

Notifications contain phishing links to resources controlled by fraudsters”– say the law enforcement officers.

Fraudsters convince people to click on a link and enter their bank card details (owner’s name, number, CVV code and expiration date).

They then buy a variety of products online, using the illegally obtained data to pay.

They can also process the return of already ordered goods by appropriating funds from the victims’ accounts.

The cyber police gave several recommendations on how to protect yourself from fraud.

Do not follow questionable hyperlinks.

Receive data about the arrival of the parcel only on the official website of the postal service or in the application.

Verify that the site’s URL is correct before entering sensitive data – even the slightest discrepancy could mean that the user has landed on a phishing site.

Get a separate Internet card for online shopping, to which you transfer only the amount necessary for payment.

Pay money after receiving the goods to minimize the risk of losing funds.

Do not share the verification codes that come in SMS messages or directly in applications to third parties.

If you have provided fraudsters with your payment information, contact the bank immediately and block the card!

It will be recalled that earlier the cyber police explained how not to become a victim of fraud when selling goods on the Internet.

The Ministry of Justice also warned about fraudsters who steal passwords under the guise of “Meta employees”.
