As a result of a Russian missile attack on the night of November 6 in Odesa, the building of the Odesa Art Museum, which is located in the zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, was badly damaged. The rocket hit the road right in front of the museum.

Today, the museum planned to celebrate its 124th anniversary, but instead the workers are forced to fix the damage and eliminate the consequences of the Russian attack.

He added that the walls of the building were damaged and the windows were broken. Work is currently underway to survey and fix the damage to the UNESCO World Heritage site.

The museum itself announced that it has canceled all festive events and Free Entrance Day planned for the museum’s birthday. “We are very happy that there are no casualties and such community cohesion, and there is no need to come to the museum tomorrow, because the process of assessing the damage, recording the consequences of the damage and investigative actions is ongoing, everything should remain intact“, they said there.

The museum staff also specified that seven exhibitions of works by contemporary artists from private collections were held at the National Museum of Contemporary Art.

Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov said that the museum could lose world-famous exhibits. “A little there, a little here, and we could get rid of many of our samples, exhibits, very famous throughout the world. Fortunately, this did not happen“, Trukhanov said.

On the night of November 6, the Russians attacked Odessa with various types of missiles and attack drones. Rockets were recorded hitting the city center and an industrial building that was not in use. The blast wave damaged several high-rise residential buildings and a museum in the historic part of the city – a UNESCO world heritage site). Eight people were injured.
