A woman who committed violence against her 74-year-old mother and did not want to undergo a program for offenders will be tried in Kyiv.

The 46-year-old woman often came home drunk, quarreled with her mother and beat her, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office said in a comment to “UP. Life”.

The court fined her and ordered her to undergo a correctional program, but she deliberately evaded it.

The Obolon district prosecutor’s office of the city of Kyiv sent a new indictment to the court. Now a harsher punishment awaits the woman.

For the first time, the court brought a woman to administrative responsibility for committing domestic violence against her 74-year-old mother (Part 2 of Article 173-2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure) back in 2023.

“The daughter lived with her mother. She periodically came home drunk and in a bad mood. She quarreled obscenely with her mother, repeatedly used physical violence against her.

The mother eventually contacted the police. Several fines were imposed on the daughter and she was ordered to undergo a correctional program. Participants of this program go to a special center where they work with psychologists who help to correct behavior.” – spokeswoman of the city prosecutor’s office Iryna Vynokurova said.

However, the offender did not comply with the court order. Now the woman faces arrest for up to 6 months, or restriction of freedom for a period of up to 2 years.

“Punishment in such articles is mostly aimed not at imprisoning or isolating a person, but at correcting violent behavior.

The correctional program was supposed to change the woman’s behavior, but she refused to go there for unknown reasons.” – adds Vynokurova.
