An Egyptian-American team of archaeologists found the upper part of a huge statue of Pharaoh Ramses II.
This happened during excavations near the Egyptian city of Minya, informs Reuters.
The found limestone block has a height of about 3.8 meters. It depicts a seated Ramses wearing a crown and headdress surmounted by a royal cobra.
In the upper part of the back column of the statue, there are hieroglyphic inscriptions glorifying the pharaoh.
The total size of the statue, including its lower part, excavated in 1930, is about 7 meters.
Archaeologists have already started preparing a block to unite both parts of the statue.
Ramses II, also known as Ramses the Great, was the third pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty of Egypt. He ruled from 1279 to 1213 BC.
