A woman who wanted to sell her friend’s child for $30,000 will be tried in Lutsk

A local 26-year-old woman who tried to sell her friend’s baby for $30,000 will be tried in Lutsk. The woman was detained in March directly during the attempt to hand over the child, the Prosecutor General’s Office reports. The investigation established that the accused took care of her friend’s unwanted son, whom she secretly gave birth to at home in April 2022 and gave away the next day after giving birth. However, as reported by the police, soon the boy became superfluous, so the woman began to look for a way to get rid of the child: she decided to sell him “without concluding any agreements and drawing up adoption documents as provided for by the legislation of Ukraine.” The woman will be tried on the fact of human trafficking, part 3 of Article 149 of the Criminal Code. The sanction of the article provides up to fifteen years of imprisonment with or without confiscation of property. According to law enforcement officers, the child is currently in the hospital. It will be recalled that the employees of the Volyn department of the Department of Internal Security of the National Police found out that the woman was looking for people willing to buy a child. In a commentary for “Ukrainian Truth. Life”, the head of the board of the “Ukrainian Network for Children’s Rights” Darya Kasyanova stressed that in the event of a situation of human trafficking, the police should be contacted. “You can hand over a child for adoption with material consent, only its parents can do it. Potential new parents must be in the register of candidates for adoption, they must have documents that they have completed training. This is a transparent procedure,” says the expert.
