Actor Yury Solomin, art director of the State Academic Maly Theater, died in Moscow. He was 88 years old.
Two days ago, Solomin was discharged from the hospital, where he went after a microstroke.
Solomin was born on June 18, 1935 in Chita. After school, he entered the Shchepkin Higher Theater School. After graduation, he was enrolled in the troupe of the Maly Theater. He played on stage the role of Gogol’s Khlestakov in the play “The Auditor”, Cyrano de Bergerac in the play based on the play by Edmond Rostan, Tsar Fyodor in the tragedy of Alexei Tolstoy.
In 1980, Solomin became the director of the Maly Theater, and from 1988 until the end of his career he was its artistic director.
Since 1961, Solomin taught at the Shchepkin Higher Theater School, was a professor of the Department of Acting.
Solomin made his film debut in the film “Sleepless Night” directed by Isidor Annenkov, but the role of intelligence officer Pavel Koltsov in the five-part film “Adjutant of His Excellency” brought fame to the actor.
