Soviet and Russian actress Yulia Borisova died at the age of 98. This was reported in the theater named after Yevgeny Vakhtangov, where Borisova worked since 1947.
Director of the theater Kirill Krok said that the actress died in the hospital, where she was in a separate ward under the supervision of doctors for about a year. Borisova will be buried at the Novodevichy cemetery.
Borisova was born in Moscow in 1925. In 1947, she graduated from the Shchukin Higher Theater School, after which she was accepted into the troupe of the Vakhtangov Theater. She played more than 60 roles, including Princess Turandot in the play of the same name based on Carlo Gozzi’s play, Epiphany in “The Millionaire” based on Bernard Shaw’s work, Valka in “The Irkutsk Story” based on Alexei Arbuzov’s play, and Cleopatra in “Antonia and Cleopatra” based on William’s tragedy Shakespeare.
She also played in several Soviet films. One of her most famous roles is Nastasya Filippovna in the film “The Idiot”, directed by Ivan Pyryev in 1958 based on the novel of the same name by Fyodor Dostoevsky.
