During the outbreak of viral hepatitis A, 327 cases of the disease were recorded in Vinnytsia region. The likely source of contamination is food markets.
Deputy Minister of Health, Chief Medical Officer of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin reported this in a comment for Ukrinform.
“The most probable cause of the outbreak of the virus was that the source of infection was the workers of the vast majority of markets.
We considered, in particular, such options as drinking water and food products. A large number of drinking water samples were taken for extended virological control, but the causative agent of the hepatitis A virus was not found in it.” – he noted.

According to the chief sanatorium, in total, more than 3,500 employees of risky facilities – food establishments, retail trade – were examined in the region. It turned out that nine of them contracted hepatitis A.
“They suffered viral hepatitis in a mild or moderate form, and they did not consult a doctor. However, such people most often infect their surroundings. Therefore, they underwent an appropriate medical examination.” – said Cousin.
According to him, there are currently no risks of contracting hepatitis A through food products in Vinnytsia.
The chief sanitary doctor also reminded that this is the second outbreak of hepatitis in Ukraine this year. The first was recorded in Transcarpathia.
“There we registered cases of the disease in July and August. We are talking about more than 90 people,” Kuzin noted.
We will remind you that the outbreak of hepatitis A in Vinnytsia began at the end of October – at that time, 74 cases of infection were registered.
Isolated cases of the disease were also recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpattia, Dnipropetrovsk and Ternopil regions.
On November 8, the Ministry of Health reported that the outbreak of hepatitis A in Vinnytsia was contained.
