The Council supported the relocation of the National War Memorial Cemetery

Parliament supported in general the draft law necessary for the construction and operation of the National Military Memorial Cemetery. The document provides that the location of the cemetery will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal, the draft law will allow to complete the necessary works in an accelerated mode. In particular, issues related to the land plot, urban planning conditions, and environmental impact assessment will be resolved.

“Now the responsible departments face the task of opening the first phase of the National Military Memorial Cemetery already in the first half of 2024.” – he noted.

People’s deputy Yaroslav Zhelezniak said that since the location of the National Military Memorial Cemetery will be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers, then, according to the information he received from government officials, the cemetery will be moved to Gatne.

The information about the transfer of the cemetery to Gatny was also confirmed by People’s Deputy Iryna Gerashchenko.

We will remind you that on November 8, the Verkhovna Rada could not gather enough votes to pass this draft law in the first reading. At that time, the deputies did not support this document, because they noted that the parliament had already adopted a law on the location of the National Military Cemetery in Bykivna. This place was supported by the families of fallen heroes.

However, later in the reserve “Bykivnian graves” they said that there may be old burials of victims of Stalin’s repressions in the Bykivnian forest. This would delay construction for a long time.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a new site – near the Southern Cemetery in the Gatna community of the Fastiv district of the Kyiv region, not far from the village of Vita-Poshtova. Relatives of the fallen heroes are against such a decision.
