Researchers believe that the children are descended from the Ichma culture, which developed on the central coast of Peru before the Inca empire spread over much of the Andean region.
Some remains were found at the foot of a staircase on a small hill where a temple may once have been.
Archaeologist Louis Takuda says that the temple was probably built 3,500 years ago.
“This whole area is a very important ceremonial room. The people who lived here during Ichma’s time still considered it a sacred place and therefore buried their dead here.” Takuda says.
There are still about 400 archaeological ruins in the capital of Peru. Previously, a mummy of a teenager with pieces of skin and hair was found in Peru.
