Astronomers talked about the flight and trajectory of the meteor that erupted over Kyiv

The flash in the sky over Kyiv on April 19, 2023 was caused by the fall of a 0.5 m meteor with a mass of 200-300 kg. This was reported by the International Meteor Organization. Part of the meteor was spotted from a great distance by the easternmost cameras of the European Fireball Network (EN) of the Astronomical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, which operates in Slovakia. However, the most valuable are the recordings of additional video cameras made in the Slovak villages of Kolonytsia and Stara Lesnia. Last night, Kyiv residents observed a strange, unusual, bright flash in the sky. The flash was also observed even from the territory of Belarus. One of the dominant versions now is that it was the fall of some kind of space object to Earth: meteor, satellite, space debris pic.twitter.com/N511Sr2iM1 — Special Kherson Cat 🐈🇺🇦 (@bayraktar_1love) April 20, 2023 Also there are some random videos of the fireball from Kyiv. The best one was taken near the River Mall and shows the mid and tail sections of the car. The fall of the car was recorded by a camera located in Hungary. Despite the fact that the distances of the Slovak and Hungarian cameras to the bolide were 570-780 km, the trajectory of the meteor was determined with an error of only a few hundred meters. For the first time, the vehicle was spotted at an altitude of 98 km above the village of Velyka Dymerka in the Brovar district. Then it passed directly over Kyiv at an altitude of about 80 km and continued to move to the southwest at a speed of 29 km/s. The meteor with an estimated initial mass of 200-300 kg (diameter of about half a meter) disintegrated at a distance of 38 km into many fragments and dust. However, another equally bright flare occurred at an altitude of 32.5 km, followed by smaller flares at altitudes of 31, 30 and 29.5 km. The car was last seen on video at an altitude of 28 km, when its speed was about 10 km/s. We will remind, on April 19, due to the fall of the meteor, an air alert was announced in Kyiv. Then there was information that a NASA satellite had fallen over the capital. Then it was denied, and scientists put forward a version about a meteor. After a mysterious flash in the sky, Ukrainians began to joke on social networks about the arrival of a UFO.
