In one of the high-rise buildings in Kryvyi Rih, unknown people bricked live bats into the window frame with foam. They managed to be saved, but now they need help.

About this reported in the Center for the Rehabilitation of Bats. It is believed that the animals were hibernating in the window frame and that the people installing the new window noticed the bats but ignored them.

In a comment for “UP. Life”, Center specialist Alyona Shulenko said that the call came from the residents of the house.

“The residents were shocked to see this. They found our number and asked for help,” – says Alyona Shulenko.

Volunteers immediately went to the scene. To get the bats, they split the foam with a knife. Concerned residents also joined the rescue operation.

In total, it was possible to get 13 red bats and one white-striped bat.

“All of them are alive, but very injured. Two of them are heavily covered with foam. Currently, the rescued bats are under the supervision of a volunteer. We have to watch them for several days.” – the specialist commented on the situation.

Alyona Shulenko assumed that there is a threat to the lives of the bats, because they could have been poisoned by the foam: while they were in the frame, they inhaled its smell and probably ate it to save themselves.

“We cannot determine the exact number of bats that were in the cracks. But the residents of the house promised that they would seek help if they found more bats.”– said the specialist.

Since the beginning of its work, the Center for the Rehabilitation of Bats has saved more than 27 thousand bats in 217 settlements. It unique mammals that are listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and require protection.
