“Best book design 2023”: the most beautiful Ukrainian publications are named

International festival “Book Arsenal” on Tuesday, December 5, named the winners of the annual competition “Best Book Design 2023”.
“The “Best Book Design” competition is one of the priority projects of the Book Arsenal. We held the competition even in those years when the festival itself was canceled due to an epidemic or a full-scale war in Ukraine. At the end of 2023, we traditionally celebrate the winners and pay tribute to professionals who create cool books, despite all the obstacles and difficulties of our time“, said Yuliya Kozlovets, director of the Book Arsenal festival.
Grand Prix got a book this year “Sirens of Titan” by Kurt Vonnegut published by the Babylonian Library publishing house. The authors of the publication concept, cover design and illustrations are Volodymyr Gavrish and Maria Gavrish. The publication also won in the nomination “Text book”.

In the nomination “Utilitarian book” edition won “Russian Colonialism” by Maxim Eristavi from ist publishing. Illustrations for the book were created by: Serhiy Maidukov, Alisa Gots, Nikita Kravtsov, Natalia Kozeko, Danylo Shtangeev, Natasha Steshenko, Ave Libertatemaveamor.

The jury of the competition focused the nomination “Visual book” to the nomination “Art book”, because, as in previous years, it was dominated by publications about art, albums, photo books, and catalogs. He became the winner here “NIKIFOR / NIKIFOR” Myroslava Mudrak from “RODOVID” Publishing House and the Ukrainian Museum in New York.

This year, the “Children’s Book” nomination was expanded to the “Visual Storytelling” nomination, which made it possible to include publications where, as in children’s books, the story is told using visual means. The winner is “Blackout. Chronicles of our life during Russia’s war against Ukraine”, Seri/count, Anya Ivanenko, Zhenya Polosina.
