One of the world’s main literary honors, the Booker Prize, has announced a long list of books competing for the award in 2023.

This year, the longlist of the Booker Prize included 13 works, four of them debuts.

It included books from four continents. Ten authors are nominated for the Booker for the first time.

Booker Prize 2023 longlist:

  • A Spell of Good Things, Ayobami Adebayo;
  • Old God’s Time (“Ancient times of the Lord”), Sebastian Barry;
  • Study for Obedience (“Learning obedience”), Sarah Bernstein;
  • If I Survive You (“If I Survive You”), Jonathan Escoffery;
  • How to Build a Boat (“How to build a boat”), Elaine Feeney;
  • This Other Eden (“This other paradise”), Paul Harding;
  • Pearl (“Pearl”), Shan Hughes;
  • All the Little Bird-Hearts (“All the little bird hearts”), Victoria Lloyd-Barlow;
  • Prophet Song (“The Prophet’s Song”), Paul Lynch;
  • In Ascension (“In Ascension”), Martin McInnes;
  • Western Lane (“Western Lane”), Chetna Maru;
  • The Bee Sting, Paul Murray;
  • The House of Doors (“House of doors”), Tan Twan Eng.

The shortlist for the Booker Prize 2023 of six books will be announced on September 21, and the name of the laureate will be known on November 26. The prize winner will receive £50,000.

The Man Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious literary prizes awarded in Great Britain. It was awarded for the first time in 1969 – the award was then received by Percy Howard Newby for the essay “You will have to answer for this”.

Works by writers of any nationality, written in English and published in Britain, can apply for the Booker Prize.

In 2022, the laureate was the Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka with the book “Seven Months of Maali Almeida”.
