Valentyn Anokhin, a physical education teacher, is undergoing rehabilitation in Lviv, and now he is a military man with the call sign “Fizruk”, who lost his left wrist as a result of being wounded at the front. A man is preparing to wear a prosthesis and dreams of one day throwing a ball into a basket with it, reports the First Medical Association of Lviv. 32-year-old Valentin Anokhin from the village of Vilhir in the Rivne region. He worked as a physical education teacher at a local school. After the start of a full-scale invasion in the spring of 2022, the teacher was mobilized into the army. All photos: The First Medical Association of Lviv In July of this year, during the repulse of an enemy assault, a tank shell exploded three meters from Valentin. “Fizruk” received multiple injuries, but survived. “A fragment of ammunition enters the buttock, tears out soft tissues, and further – hits the hand and crushes the hand,” the medical association reports. With tourniquets on his limbs, the seriously injured Valentin covers about a kilometer in the direction of the evacuation point. “I was lucky. I pulled myself together and evacuated in order to survive,” says the soldier, recalling July. The comrades put on a tourniquet and the seriously wounded fighter walked about a kilometer on his own feet in the direction of the evacuation point. The wounded teacher was carried on a stretcher the rest of the way to the evacuation vehicle. At first, he was in a hospital in Kharkiv, where doctors re-amputated his left arm and formed a stump. A vacuum device was installed on the wound on the buttock. Then Valentin was sent to Lviv. “For a month, our doctors changed the vacuum device, and later closed the defect on the buttock with skin from the thigh,” the doctors write. Currently, the soldier is undergoing rehabilitation and preparing to wear a bionic prosthesis. Valentyn says that after recovery, he wants to return to work at the school, in particular, to continue teaching children how to play basketball. The teacher’s dream is to throw the ball into the basket with his left bionic hand. In order to fully teach children to play basketball again, Valentin needs not a simple prosthesis, but a bionic one.
