Canister therapy is one of the effective methods of treatment and rehabilitation of military personnel, during which specially trained dogs are used. In addition, animals are able to positively influence the psychophysical condition of fighters. The soldiers of the “Spartan” brigade, who were visited by the “tailed doctors” Mira, Rada and Lyalya, were convinced of this, the National Guard reports. Through canister therapy, military personnel develop trust in other people and reveal their feelings and emotions. The therapy contributes to rapid psychotherapeutic recovery and social adaptation, according to cynologists. Both group and individual therapy are conducted with military personnel. The most experienced among the “rehabilitators” is Mira, who has been working in therapy for more than six years. “Her specialty is children with mental and mental disorders, disorders of the autistic spectrum. Since 2016, she and I have been working with children evacuated from the ATO zone with post-traumatic syndromes caused by psychological injuries,” says canine therapist Yaroslava Kosogova. First, four-legged animals pass a special test for the absence of an aggressive reaction to people and fear of loud sounds and unusual objects. The dogs are then trained to interact with the patients. The final stage of preparation is passing an exam and obtaining a license for treatment. It is noted that interaction with dogs is important for military personnel, because during combat missions, these animals help them and can warn of danger. “Interaction with dogs helps reduce anxiety and depression, improves mood, relieves emotional stress, military personnel become more open and sociable. In addition, therapy dogs help in the physical rehabilitation of military personnel. With pleasure accompanying them on walks, they stimulate motor activity and help injured military personnel to restore muscle and joint function,” notes dog trainer Oksana Shibarova.
