Child pneumonia outbreak in China: WHO says the situation is not as severe as during the COVID-19 pandemic

The outbreak of respiratory diseases that China is currently experiencing is not as high as it was during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was stated by the acting director of the Department of Preparedness and Prevention of Epidemics and Pandemics of the World Health Organization, Maria Van Kerkhove, and emphasized that no unusual or new pathogens have been detected in connection with the increase in childhood pneumonia, writes Reuters.
Kerchowe says the rise in respiratory illnesses is likely due to the circulation of pathogens. Also, the increase in morbidity may be related to the lifting of restrictions regarding COVID-19.
“The current peak of respiratory diseases is not as high as it was in 2018-2019. There is also no sign of the emergence of a new pathogeny,” Van Kerkhove emphasized.

The representative of the National Health Commission of China, Mi Feng, said that the surge of acute respiratory diseases is associated with the simultaneous circulation of several types of pathogens, the main of which is influenza.
We will remind, the World Health Organization sent an official request to China regarding the growth of respiratory diseases and registered clusters (cells) of pneumonia in children.
Chinese health authorities have claimed that they have not identified any unusual or new pathogens in connection with the rise in childhood pneumonia.
