Collected money for the “transportation of the child’s body”: the fraudster will be tried in the Rivne region

A 29-year-old resident of the Rivne region announced on her social media page about an urgent collection of funds allegedly for transporting the body of her dead child from Germany to Ukraine. However, as it was found out in the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Rivne region, the woman spent the collected funds to repay the loan. The woman announced a fundraiser in the fall of 2022 on her Facebook page. At least seven caring people responded. However, later one of the benefactors asked to provide the child’s death certificate, which the woman was unable to provide. “The status of victims includes seven people who turned to the police. They responded to the request for help and transferred a total of 6,300 hryvnias of their own funds,” the report says. As the accused later explained, she spent the money to repay the loan. It is known that the woman has three minor children. All of them are alive and well. As a matter of fact, criminal proceedings have been opened under Part 3 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code (fraud). The article provides up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.
