The Security Service of Ukraine refuses to give the current head of the Holodomor Museum Lesya Hasydzhak access to the working materials that became the basis for the scandalous study published in 2021 about the new number of victims of the Holodomor aged 32-33. When she was appointed acting, the first thing Hasidzhak did was try to find out from the museum scientists how calculations were made. “Everyone blinked their eyes and said that this research was not conducted by the museum, but by the Security Service of Ukraine, and they acted only as experts in their free time,” said the acting director. director of the museum. So she decided to turn to the SBU with a request to provide access to the materials. “I have already written about six letters to the Security Service of Ukraine with a request to be able to get acquainted with the working materials. Every time I receive a refusal saying that this is confidential information, it cannot be made public, and the like,” Hasidzhak clarified. In her last letter to the Security Service of Ukraine, she indicated “that the materials from the so-called examinations were made public in a publication that was once published and distributed by the museum,” so she again asked for access. “So far, there is no answer to the last letter from the Security Service of Ukraine. And I can’t look, read the materials,” concluded the head of the Holodomor Museum. About the scandalous study In September 2021, the International Forum “Mass artificial famines: we remember, we honor” was held in Kyiv, dedicated to the famines organized by the Soviet authorities in Ukraine. Here they presented a study with a new number of victims of the famine of 1932-1933 – 10.5 million Ukrainians. It was represented by Olesya Stasiuk, then director of the National Holodomor Museum, and Mykola Gerasimenko, ex-deputy head of the SBU. Before the forum, Stasyuk and Gerasimenko published the materials of the dubious study in a separate book. It was called “Genocide of Ukrainians 1932-1933 based on the materials of pre-trial investigations” and was even reprinted in 2022. Since then, the Holodomor Museum has distanced itself from this study and relies on the previous officially accepted figure of 3.9 million, calculated by the M. V.
