A surveillance camera was installed in the artificial nest of a barn owl in Berehiv district in Transcarpathia. Scientists have launched a 24-hour broadcast on YouTube, reports the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds of Transcarpathia. The nesting box was installed back in 2021, and in May 2023, a record number of eggs appeared there. “In the artificial nest of the barn owl, where there were 10 eggs this year, owlets are growing up,” the Nature Conservancy writes. They are in the attics and under the roofs of residents of Berehiv and Mukachiv districts. According to the workers of the bird protection society, such boxes contributed to the increase of nesting owls by 17 pairs. Because they settled there and successfully raised offspring. “The new stage of our activity is aimed at ensuring the sustainable improvement of the conditions of existence and protection of the key habitat of the owl”, – they write in the Ukrainian Society for the Protection of Birds of Transcarpathia.
