In Ukraine, the program of the practical part of the school subject “Defense of Ukraine” can be updated. From September, the pilot project of the updated discipline will be launched in educational institutions of various regions, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine reports. The subject program is being finalized thanks to feedback from students and teachers who will be involved in the implementation of “Protection of Ukraine” in schools. “In order for the pilot of the project to be successful, the Ministry of Education and Culture will organize a course for teachers. For this, we are engaging international and public organizations with experience in teaching adults to cooperate,” the department said. The MES emphasized that these skills are necessary in everyday life. “In the near future, working groups of invited experts will begin working on proposals for updating the practical component of the discipline. They will update the program and increase the number of practical classes, add preparation for mastering the basic technologies currently used by defense attorneys,” the department said. The MES adds that the practical component of the “Defense of Ukraine” discipline will relate to the skills necessary for life in the realities of war. It can also help in hiking, traveling or crisis situations. For example, first aid skills and local orientation. In particular, mine safety knowledge will help save life and health. Children will know how to behave properly in case of detection of explosive objects. Skills such as drone control will be used by videographers, surveyors, archaeologists, etc. in the future. “Updating the discipline “Protection of Ukraine” is a long-awaited and necessary step, because education must meet the conditions and challenges of today,” said Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi. He adds that quality pre-medical care, sports drone control, basic engineering within STEM education are what are in demand today. It will be recalled that the head of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Oksen Lisovyi, said that in Ukraine they are developing a project of standards that will provide for the introduction of a separate course of sex education in school education.
