Courses on the basics of tactical medicine and training, as well as the position of “security officer”, may appear in secondary schools of Ukraine. This was reported by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Education, Science and Innovation Serhiy Babak in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine”. As the parliamentarian noted, the courses will include the basics of tactical medicine and training for both boys and girls. Serhii Babak said that boys should understand medicine, and girls should be able to handle weapons. Therefore, it is important that the program is the same for all children. He believes that such subjects should be taught not only in the 10th-11th grades, but also earlier: from the 8th-9th, because some of the children will go on to professional education after finishing high school. Babak emphasized that “it is important not to overdo it” in the matter of the security structure in schools. “I know that the concept of security in schools, which was initiated by the late Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyi, is currently being developed. The idea was to add a full-time security officer to the schools, who will be an employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” the head of the committee noted. According to him, this position is needed to monitor the security of the school at the level of video surveillance, panic buttons. The task of an officer is not so much to directly intervene in all conflicts as to transfer information to internal affairs bodies for quick response if necessary.
