“Temple-maf” near the Museum of the History of Ukraine must be demolished – court

On Wednesday, February 15, the Commercial Court of the city of Kyiv finally made a decision in the case of the illegal “temple-mafu” on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. As Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkachenko reported, at today’s meeting the court ordered to free the site of the museum from the illegally built “temple”. “The Museum’s lawsuit has been satisfied. Placing this structure on the museum’s land is contrary to its intended use,” Tkachenko wrote. The minister also added that the “temple-kiosk” is located in the buffer zone of UNESCO monuments, where new construction is prohibited, and also violates the ensemble of the historical archaeological complex “Desyatynna tserkva”. The preliminary meeting in the case of the demolition of the “mafu temple” took place last week, on February 8. On it, the defendant’s side tried to get the judge dismissed, and also allowed themselves harsh statements. “The lawyer of the opposite party proposed to demolish the Museum, because there seems to be nothing valuable there,” the minister said after that meeting. Arbitrary seizure by representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate of the plot near the Tithing Church began in 2008. Initially, the building had the appearance of three kiosks, and in 2012, during the time of Viktor Yanukovych, the construction began to be “legalized”. However, the religious organization did not have any permits either for construction or for the use of the land. From 2020, the National Museum of the History of Ukraine, which is also located nearby, demanded the demolition of the “maf temple” with its lawsuit. Read also: Mariinsky Park without Vatutin.
