Debunks Soviet myths: the film “Eurodonbas” will be released in September
In September 2023, the documentary “Eurodonbas” will be released in Kyiv, debunking Soviet myths about the creation of the region exclusively during the times of the USSR. The creators of “Eurodonbas” are the authors of the podcast of the same name, director Kornii Hrytsyuk and producer Anna Palenchuk, who also participated in the creation of “Mariupolis”. “Donbas is known as an industrial region. For years, the Soviet authorities took credit for the development of local industry. But the prosperity of the region began long before the arrival of the Bolsheviks, and the founders of the local industry were Germans, Belgians, British, French and Americans. The investigative film “Eurodonbas” debunks the Soviet myths and tells that more than 100 years ago, Donbass was an inseparable part of the European world,” the organizers of the film show say. The film poster The team animated a series of little-known archival photos of the 19th century: they show the daily life of Europeans in Donbas. Instead, the Soviet authorities erased from people’s memory the names of such European entrepreneurs as John Hughes, Ernest Solve, Heinrich Laude. “The film shows the foreign heritage of Mariupol, Lysychansk, Druzhkivka, and the New York settlement, which, unfortunately, can no longer be seen as in the film, because soon after the filming, almost all the European heritage objects filmed were destroyed by Russian troops” – add the organizers.
