At the age of 19, National Guardsman Volodymyr Magda already managed to destroy two enemy tanks during the Russian-Ukrainian war. Despite the difficult service on the front line, the boy continues to dream of a military career: he even called the academy from the trenches to find out what he needed for admission. Before the full-scale invasion, he had successfully passed the selection for the pankration (martial arts) competition. “We went to train at a military base near Kharkov, stayed there for a month, and then were supposed to go to Slovyansk for a competition. But the war started,” the boy recalls. Given that Volodymyr was a conscript, he was offered to stay at the military base and carry guard service However, Magda refused and chose another path. PHOTO: National Guard “One day, an officer of the National Guard came to us and was recruiting people for a unit that was supposed to advance to a position in the Luhansk region. I immediately agreed and signed my combat contract,” says a serviceman. He faced his first battle in Popasnaya, in the Luhansk region , in winter. The boy and his brothers were in a combat position when a column of Russian vehicles moved towards them. The servicemen began to fight back. “Seeing the first tank, I fired from the NLAW anti-tank complex and neutralized it. The second one aimed at us, but hit a nearby tree, my comrade received a shrapnel wound in the head,” the National Guardsman recalls. National Guardsman with his brother. He noticed his injuries after the battle. After that, for three months, the National Guardsman and his comrades defended Bakhmut and evacuated the local population. Later, due to the loss of personnel in the unit, Volodymyr Magda was forced to return to combat coordination (training). “And after four months of participation in hostilities, he became a crew commander and, by order, as part of the unit, we advanced to the village of Sosnivka, Kharkiv region, which was later liberated from the occupiers. However, there he was wounded again in the right zygomatic area (facial bone),” says the cadet . Mami said that he remained in the combat unit… The President of Ukraine awarded Volodymyr Magda with the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine”. The National Guardsman also received a wristwatch from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and a book with the signature of the deceased Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyi. When the boy is asked where he got his strength on the battlefield at the age of 19, Volodymyr does not hesitate to answer that “without doubting myself, I just did everything that depended on me.” Volodymyr is at war. If you don’t know that you can’t do something, everything it will definitely work,” adds Volodymyr Magda. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he told his mother that he had stayed with his military unit and was on duty, so she thought he was fine. And then the guy posted a photo on Instagram against the background of a “collapsed” tank, and already then my mother found out about everything. “Well, in the future, of course, I was very worried, although I tried not to make her nervous. But now everything is fine, so I think she is a little calmer than me,” says the National Guardsman. Volodymyr Magda called the reception hall of the academy from the trench. Volodymyr Magda remembers how he called from the trenches to the admissions committee of the Academy of the National Guard of Ukraine, where he is now successfully studying at the Faculty of Humanities. He tried to learn how to collect documents and how to submit them correctly for admission. “I sent it through the new post office and a week later they called me and informed me that I could come to take exams and undergo initial military training,” says the soldier. In order to effectively apply his knowledge, he decided to study to become an officer. Since childhood, he studied German and English, which is why he entered the Faculty of Humanities. “When I was the commander of the BTR-4 crew, I had men under my command who were 30 years old. Then I realized that it doesn’t matter how old you are, the main thing is how you set the task, success depends on it its implementation,” Volodymyr Magda added. The boy dreams of becoming an officer. He wants to be progressive, to look for an individual approach to each person and to motivate the personnel by his own example. “I have a tattoo on my arm: a forest deer, it is a Scandinavian sign. It means strength, spirituality and invincibility. I consider it my amulet and strive to live up to these values ​​now and in the future,” says the National Guardsman.
