“Destruction of national values”: Lutsk deputies opposed partnerships for LGBT people

Lutsk deputies call on the Verkhovna Rada to prevent the adoption of draft law No. 9103 “On the Institute of Registered Partnerships”. The petition to the Verkhovna Rada was supported during the 43rd session of the Lutsk City Council, the institution’s website reports. According to the representatives of the community, the draft law on civil partnerships “may lead to the destruction of national values.” It is about the draft law of People’s Deputy of Ukraine from the “Voice” faction Inna Sovsun on the introduction of the institute of civil partnerships. “The Moscow-Ukrainian national liberation war should focus Ukrainian society as much as possible on the victory over Moscow’s enemy and the adoption of relevant laws aimed at strengthening the front and the rear at the same time. Instead, we are observing two extremely threatening trends that not only undermine or delay our victory over Moscow , but ideologically destroy and morally corrupt Ukrainian society. These are attacks on two defining social values: national and family education,” the statement reads. Photo: Lutsk City Council Deputies are worried that this is a step towards the recognition of same-sex marriages and that civil partnerships will eventually be equated with family in their rights. According to Lutsk deputies, the draft law will lead to “the inevitable aggressive imposition of gender ideology on the entire society and will threaten the implementation of an adequate demographic policy during the national liberation war.” Politicians also referred to Article 51 of the Constitution of Ukraine and Article 21 of the Family Code, where marriage is defined as the union of a woman and a man. In the end, they called on religious organizations and representatives of “family values” to protest against the institution of civil partnerships. We will remind you that earlier the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine opposed the establishment of the “registered partnerships” institute. The Holy Synod of the OCU declared that the initiative contradicts the “natural law established by God” and violates the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine regarding the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman. On March 7, Sovsun submitted a draft law for registration, according to which civil partnership can be used by both same-sex and opposite-sex couples. The deputy said that the initiative will help determine mutual rights and obligations, issues of property ownership, inheritance, social protection, rights in case of death or disappearance. The Ministry of Justice plans to submit a similar bill to Parliament, but it only deals with civil partnerships for LGBT people.
