The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has approved the use of Wegovy for the treatment of obesity in adolescents aged 12 and over. The relevant opinion was adopted by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) on March 31, Reuters reports. The drug Wegovy from the Danish pharmaceutical concern Novo Nordisk (NOVOb.CO), which was previously used for weight loss by adult patients, can now be drunk by teenagers as well. The committee’s positive conclusion is “an important recognition of the unmet medical need among adolescents living with obesity and the need for additional treatment options,” the manufacturer said in a Reuters comment. The drug is already available in Denmark and Norway. The company has not announced when it plans to bring it to the market of other EU countries. Importantly!
