Relatives and colleagues of the young scientist told in social networks how they remembered Bizhan Sharopov. “Bizhan Sharopov was incredible. He was four hours late for our first meeting and also lost his phone. And I am very grateful that I met him. For many lectures. For our trip to Lviv. For carrying me in his arms through puddles .For the flowers and for the countless cigarettes I threw at him. For the long phone conversations. For the fact that he came to my biofac when we were fighting, and for the way he played my favorite song on the guitar. In The Institute of Physiology confirmed the news of the biologist’s death. Photo: Nastya Tokhtamysh/Facebook It was through him that I read all of Lem. He spoke with equal enthusiasm about Carl Sagan and about his mother. And now it will be incredibly difficult for me to carry these memories alone. Thank you for that, that you have always supported me. Thank you for giving your life so that we could all be free. I will remember you forever as young, daring and brave,” Nastya Tokhtamysh shares her memories. Bizhan was the head of the Council of Young Scientists, he worked at the Institute of Physiology. Bizhan’s friend, the scientist Anton Senenko, recalls: “While at scientific conferences or open lectures, everyone was discussing in ties and jackets, you sat in the huge auditorium in the gallery in your stretched military sweater, which you got even with the ATO, and was not inferior to the level of arrogant conversation. While scientific popularizers with academic facial expressions told civilians about their research, you made such grimaces and used such intonations at demonstrations that all the children around you were sure to try to listen to your stories about how the research goal is to thinly slice brains. Bijan, if I was 9 and I got to your lecture, I would also go to physiologists, not physicists.” The scientist was an active participant in the Revolution of Dignity and a veteran. Photo: Anton Senenko/Facebook “You were a cool scientist. One of the best popularizers of science in the country. And you were a real warrior. Heroes die, unfortunately. Today, the country learned that Bizhan Sharopov, a talented young scientist, physiologist, died fighting for Ukraine with weapons in hand. It’s hard to imagine what a chasm of ideas and plans have gone into oblivion,” the scientist adds. Military medic Dmytro Mameev, who has returned to the front since the beginning of the Great War, also shared his memories of the fallen defender: “Today I learned about the confirmation of the death of Bizhan Sharopov. He disappeared in April. I searched, but did not find his photo from a lecture at the Bogomolets Institute of Physiology, where I saw him then by coincidence (I didn’t know that he works there and will be a lecturer), for the first time after the Maidan, we crossed paths at the events. He was a good scientist with valuable developments and a wonderful person.” “You were a cool scientist. One of the best popularizers of science in the country. And you were a real warrior,” Anton Senenko remembers about the fallen scientist. A classmate of the scientist, Oksana Tovsta, wrote: “Our classmate, a young scientist, extraordinary and fearless, died fighting for Ukraine. How many he brought good things into the world and could still bring them. We often sat together at the same desk, the last one. And I always wondered how he could hear everything there, follow everything, discuss with the teachers of all subjects, without even having books at times) Sharp mind , cheerful disposition, humanity, sincerity, perseverance – what Bijan was remembered by all of us. A great loss for his family and for the world. Rest in peace, our Hero.” “Our classmate, a young scientist, extraordinary and fearless, died fighting for Ukraine,” wrote classmate Bizhana.
